Tips and tricks for developing IT solutions in Filemaker Pro

Andy Cohen and Lee Strong at the studio where they produce FM Success Tips, a series of podcasts  dedicated to helping FileMaker developers understand and fully utilize the very capable FileMaker relational database software. Below, Forrest Sass, President of FM Associates, records a message to be included in the podcasts.

FM Succcess Tips are focused on tips and tricks for FileMaker Pro IT solutions. We discuss everything from "Get" functions to how to get clients. We get into discussing basic IT and database technical issues and how they relate to FileMaker... and we also try to have a lot of fun in the process...Check it out!

What NOT to say to a client when you're developing a database

You are deep in your work, concentrating on solving a difficult problem when you accidentally delete a line of code or erase an element from the page. Involuntarily you blurt out “Oooops!”

That’s NOT what your customer wants to hear! IT may be entirely human, but it doesn’t leave your customer with the “warm and fuzzy feelings” about you. Listen to a better way to deal with this issue here.

Using special notes table to foster communication with your client (with extra benefits for the developer!)

We talk about using a special table for design notes to get feedback from users during your solutions operation; the "Get" functions; and how to test your application while in a specific privilege setting which may not have full admin access. here
